I feel I have to start a few weeks back on our Thursday bike ride! We do a very similar route each week and every now and then we come across paper from one run or another!

This was after Flapsy and I had decided on an A-Site for the Jungle, in this area, this particular paper was Dirt Road for this very day, also amongst this was Bike Hash paper from December!

Ah well we like a challenge, anyway we muddled through but whilst having a chat to one of the Monkey hares about all this he let slip they were going to have to pick paper up from said runs! Including ours!

Sure enough on the Tuesday previous to the Monkey I did a ride by myself along the tried and tested route and sure enough paper had disappeared. Well of course Thursday comes along and we do what we do on the Thursday ride, I follow PS round by the river as its more interesting and there it is, lovely new white paper, surely we must run into the hares but no our route only covers about 400 meters of new trail and you know what he never saw any paper the blind Yank!

Saturday comes round and of we go on our little adventure, where do we start, just where I saw the paper! Ace I know the first 400 meters of the run!!!

We meander round doing some good little loops that keep us nicely together, the weather today is very kind to us as yesterday it was so hot so we all reach the water stop nicely grouped together, it was at this stage those bad hares who had apparently altered their run to suit yesterday’s heat said we were now to go back the same way as we came! Wind up merchants.

Off we go up the hill the FRBs swing right I am a little skeptical about this and decide to have a look up this little trail to the left, sure enough as soon as I hear Back Check I am on and am now a FRB! This was a bad move as AFC and I are really yomping up this bloody great steep bit and over a step only to find a Back Check, sorry guys but you were called all the names under the sun, by me anyway. The grand old Duke of York was marching down, now a mid packer!

Let’s hope those sadistic hares put another of those back checks in so we can get back on terms again. The end of the event course is here and it’s another check. People are checking all over the place; let’s just say I along with someone else got on as the guys were doing a loop, Some you win! Some you lose!

I did lose as at the next check I was second guessing and got it wrong! I could have waited in the shade like someone we all know but I am from Yorkshire and we just don’t do that! So I had done my duty and of we all went again, there was a little confusion at the entrance to the Quarry but I committed myself to going downhill once again and it was a wonderful site to see the beer truck and the water looked so inviting! Not where I thought it was going to be, but that’s the beauty of the Monkey! You just never know!

The second half for some may have been a bit short but given the weather the day before I think all in all it worked well, bet the three virgins thought that as well! It was great to get in that water with a beer and chill, even if the bottom was a bit squidgy!

This was GI Joes Day a great achievement by a great man and a shining example to us all, long may we continue hearing that magnificent ON ON and share his company. On Yer Bike. aka CK
